How the test works

The Pet Know How tests are designed to test your basic knowledge of keeping a pet of your choice.  They will help you understand the needs of the animal and some of the important things you need to consider if you were to have one as a pet.  Once you complete a test you won’t be an expert keeper but you will be in a better position to make an informed decision and decide if you are able and willing to take on the responsibility of your new pet.

Before taking the test, you should work through the presentation, which contains basic information about the care of your chosen pet taken from peer-reviewed care leaflets.  This will provide you with of all the important basic information about your prospective pet. You can step through section by section, move backwards or forwards or even jump to different sections until you are confident.

Multiple-choice

The tests consist of a series of multiple-choice questions, and all of the answers can be found in the presentation.  For each question, select the answer that you think is correct.  If you are not sure of an answer, then you can follow the hint found on each question to refresh your memory.

Certificate

At the end of the test, if you have answered all of the questions correctly, then you can download your certificate, which you can use to show a pet seller that you have a basic knowledge of how to look after your chosen pet.  The certificate will also be emailed to your chosen pet seller if you enter their email at the start of the test.

Re-take the test

If you didn’t get all of the questions correct, then Pet Know How will show you a list of the questions that you answered correctly and also the ones that you didn’t get right. You can then refresh your knowledge and try the test again.  You can take the tests as many times as you like until you have gained all of the basic knowledge of providing maximum welfare for your chosen animal.
