Reptiles as pets
Reptiles are beautiful and fascinating creatures to observe and if you're considering getting a pet, you may want to consider owning a reptile! They can make wonderful pets but many have specific requirements that mean it is essential to research thoroughly before selecting the right reptile pet for you.
Reptiles have the potential to live a lot longer than other pets – sometimes decades - so you really need to consider that before taking one on. However, compared to some other pets they can be relatively low-maintenance, some may only eat once a week or less for example, so they can be a good option if you have don’t have access to outside space or live in a flat. However, like all other pets, they still require attention every day to stay happy and healthy, so don’t think they are an easy option. They require specific environmental conditions to thrive, so providing them with a suitable enclosure, heating and lighting, and a proper diet is essential.
Of course, owning a reptile is not for everyone so have a look at the repptile tests and see if one might suit you.
